Discover your innate courage

It’s a well-known belief that the first step is always the toughest challenge. Be that a new job, joining a community or exploring coaching. The first step is so big because of stepping into the unknown, and this requires courage. The courage gives you the push to take that initial action, ‘a leap of faith’ to make change possible.

Now, we all have innate courage however we can forget this over time, particularly in our modern world full of comforts. (Check out The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter). Our modern comforts hold us back from pursuing challenges because we have convenient comforts all around us. Meaning we lose sight of the innate courage we have inside us to pursue challenges, to take that first ‘leap’.
Often it takes some form of pressure or stress for us to step into our courage. Say your job is making you miserable, you put up with it for so long until your partner gives you an ultimatum. That is the additional pressure sparks the courage to make a change, to take the leap and pursue something different. Most of the clients I work with have a trigger point, something happens, and they go enough is enough.
Something to point out here is we don’t always see courage as something natural to us, often the word confidence gets thrown around. Now you can have self belief to pursue challenges but that’s not confidence. Confidence is from experience. Feeling certain and assured. Self belief is about trusting your abilities. Courage is different, it’s an ability to do something that frightens you, to have the bravery to step into the unknown.
The reason I wanted to share this was I often see courageous people diminish themselves with limiting beliefs like I’m not confident, I’m not good enough, I’m not likeable, and I can’t do hard things! Sound familiar?
Here’s my invite to discover your innate courage:
First, ask yourself what’s holding you back from pursuing your biggest dreams/goals?
Second, what do I need to take the first step/leap?
Third, take 10 seconds of unstoppable courage and take the first step. Don’t get discouraged stay focused on your action.
We all have innate courage, sometimes we’ve just not had the right opportunity to discover it. Go out and challenge yourself, you may discover you can achieve far more than you believe.
